WHY SUNSLATES?

SUNSLATES™ solar electric roofing tiles, give you more than a roof over your head, with a technologically advanced roofing solution that dramatically reduces your electricity demand. SUNSLATES™ are part of an advanced photovoltaic system that will not only turn your roof into a power plant, but is safety rated to keep your home safe from blackouts, wind, water, and fire. The superior production standards and insistence on superior building materials used during every phase of the SUNSLATES™ tiles process, results in a product that will last for decades.

A typical installation of 216 SUNSLATES™ (about 300 square feet/28 square meters) will cover from 60 to 80% of your power needs, depending on your location.

The slates are installed by a Renewable Energies certified installer. SUNSLATES™ marry silicon chips to a slate-like roof tile creating electricity from sunlight. A portion of south-facing roof can provide up to 100% of the electricity that your family uses. No batteries are needed. The surplus power feeds into the utility grid and becomes available to you whenever needed. The SUNSLATES™ power can also be backed-up with batteries in case of emergencies. An estimated 1/3 of all CO2 emissions are linked to electric power generation. A recent California utility study found that over its thirty year life, a typical 4kW Power Roof™ system can save nearly 250,000 lbs. of coal, or 17,200 gallons of oil. In addition, each PV roof will reduce the production of atmospheric pollutants by over 400,000 lbs. of CO2 (greenhouse gas), and nearly 3,000 lbs. of sulfates (acid rain).

Each SUNSLATES™ tile begins as an Eternit roofing slate. The low glare tempered glass power panel is then bonded to the exposed surface.

SUNSLATES™ Power Roof™ not only provides power for your home, it provides for your neighbors as well. During the day, especially in the summer, SUNSLATES™ will be making a surplus, just when the neighbors and the utility company need it most during peak loads. Thanks to your SUNSLATES™, utility brownouts are lessened and additional power generating plants are not needed. The utility then pays you back at the same rate as they previously charged you for the excess power generated. You can draw these credits at night or whenever you need them!

The SUNSLATES™ Power Roof™ is in for the long haul with a life expectancy of over 50 years. The roof has been tested to sustain temperatures of -30°F - 170°F. Imagine what you will have to pay for electricity this year, or the next 20 years. Now imagine being able to recover that money whenever you sell your home. Things just couldn't get much better!

Another Bill – Or An Investment?

SUNSLATES™ will answer that question for you in no time. You keep your monthly electricity bill invested in your home. Plus, you are eligible for utility company, State programs, and Federal EPA Energy Star mortgage point discounts as well as interest rate tax write offs.

A Roofing Product at Peace with the World

Each SUNSLATES™ tile produces Direct Current (DC) electricity. The combined output of the Power Roof™ is harvested and transferred to an inverter that changes it to AC power. It is then tied to the electric meter, reversing its direction as soon at it begins producing more power than the house is using. Your budget, your home's value, and the environment are protected.

Each SUNSLATES™ tile has passed a battery of quality assuredness tests prior to shipping. Each has a UL sticker for passing the UL1703 tests for PV. It has also passed a rigorous UL 790 roofing test for fire, and qualifies as a Class A fire resistant roof.
